Everything you need to know !
Toastmasters International creates leaders. At Toastmasters of Paris, you can improve your speaking skills and your ability to think on your feet. You’ll get better at speaking in front of small and large audiences. You’ll gain an understanding of how to best present yourself and your projects. You’ll learn to run meetings and get better at interpersonal communication, too. Toastmasters is a great way to build your self-confidence while meeting other English speakers and making new friends.
We are meeting every first and third Tuesday at the lovely Les Noces de Jeannette restaurant located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. Evenings start with a cocktail at 7:30pm, followed by dinner and speeches at 8 pm.
About half of our members are native English speakers, and the other half speak the language fluently. Although the club is a great place to practice your English, it is not meant to be a place to learn English.
If you are not a native speaker, you may be asked to pass a language test in order to become a member.
As a guest, you are not required to stand and speak in front of the group. We do ask that you introduce yourself by saying your name and a few words about why you came (all while staying comfortably in your seat). Members are never required to speak but are encouraged to speak at their own pace.
No. But we absolutely guarantee baguette.
Absolutely! Many of our members started out terrified to speak in front of a group. The fear is so common that there’s even a name for it: Glossophobia. We will do everything we can to create a warm and welcoming experience for you. You’ll never be judged or asked to speak when you are not ready. The mission of a Toastmasters Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth.
Only you can decide if Toastmasters is right for you. However, we are extremely proud that Toastmasters of Paris’ members have won many regional and European speaking contests. The level of speeches that you’ll listen to during a meeting is very professional. We are also the first Toastmasters club to have been formed in Paris, celebrating with a fun 45th birthday bash in November 2020.
That said, Toastmasters now has 364,000 members all over the world. Many lawyers, judges, coaches, Ted Talkers, entrepreneurs, teachers and other public speaking professionals are members. The training and hands-on, speak-in-front-of-a-crowd experience you get at a Toastmasters club is unmatched. Our club is a safe place to get useful feedback about your speeches and to practice and grow the art of oratory. You can bring any content you would like to work with–we do not teach you what to say, we just give you a place to learn how to say it.
Toastmasters’ educational materials cover a wide variety of speaking experiences, including improvisation and actual toasts. Our projects cover everything from running effective meetings, facilitating panel discussions, creating a podcast, engaging in the art of persuasion and debate, and many other skills.
